Named Bricks Project

HARLEY COURTYARD

Launched in 1995 as a fundraising and memorabilia initiative, several hundred orders were taken for bricks and these initially lined the walkway adjacent to the College Hall.  However this location was not ideal and a new plan was conceived to coincide with the 150th celebrations.  In March 2006 work begun on a new landscaped seating area in the courtyard by the entrance to the Scriptorium. The original bricks were relocated to line the Scriptorium walkway and new bricks were placed in the seating areas.  The design concept has been future-proofed and will allow for more seating and landscaping as the need arises.  The next section will be laid when sufficient orders have been received.

Our thanks goes to:

  • The Harley Family
Funding for the project was received from the "Hilda and Auty Harley Trust" and the courtyard has been named in recognition of this generous gift.  We trust that not only their family but all Old Boys and their families will derive years of pleasure from this special memorial area.
  • David Wallace of Arthouse Architecture for the design of the new area.
  • Project Co-ordinator, Old Boy, Alistair Wiffen (1972-76)
  • WR (Bill) Andrew (1965-69) who re-engineered the plinth around the Liquid Amber

Old Boys and staff are encouraged to purchase a brick to enable the continutation of the original concept "to help the College and provide a link between Old Boys and their school"  It will also leave testimony of your time here at the College and a permanent record for future generations to visit.
